The Best Advice on Reddit-image

Welcome back to the Arrive North Shore Blog! Today, we’re embracing the summer season with advice from the online community. Summer is a busy season and it’s finally here. While we can’t wait to dive into all the fun that accompanies these next few months, it’s important to slow down and apply some sage advice from the Reddit community. Let’s see what advice we can apply from users of Reddit . If you don’t already know, Reddit is a website where people can post content such as links, text posts, and images, which people can comment and vote on. The more popular the comments in the post, the more points they receive. We found a great Reddit thread titled, “What is the best piece of advice to give to [an 18-year-old]?” Even if you’re not 18, the advice we found on this thread is valuable for everyone. Enjoy! It’s okay to admit when you’ve made a mistake. Never be afraid to ask a question for fear of looking dumb. Do what you like to do, speak your mind, and embrace yourself. Nobody is the bad guy in their own story. First, learn to cook. Second, if someone won't give you their time, they probably aren’t worth yours. Life will always have struggles. What defines a person is how they face these struggles. Nothing matters as much as you think it does. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Learning doesn't end when school does, stay curious. Keep yourself in shape, limit sugar and junk food, eat healthy. Learn to save a bit of your paycheck no matter how much you make now and let the magic of compound interest work in your favor. Avoid debt. Do you have some advice you’d like to share with residents of our apartment community in Highwood, IL? Comment below.

Focus on Gratitude in May-image

This month, the Arrive North Shore Blog is all about gratitude. Now that we’ve entered the month of May, it’s a great time to sit back and reflect on the many things that we’re grateful for. Won’t you join us? There are many benefits to being grateful including higher self-esteem, increased mental strength, and a better night’s sleep. If you want to work on being more grateful, start this month with a few easy exercises. These exercises will help you improve your life by becoming a more generous and grateful person. An easy way to become grateful is simply to remember all the things that you have to be grateful for. Keep a gratitude journal and record a few of the good things that happen to you each day. If keeping a journal isn’t your thing, dash off a few notes on a calendar or write a Facebook post about what you are grateful for every couple of days. You could even start your own gratitude blog and share what you’re thankful for with the world. Another great way to express gratitude is by expressing your thanks to the people around you. There are many ways to do this. You could do a favor for a friend, take a neighbor out to dinner, or bake cookies for your co-workers to enjoy. Just make sure that your thanks is personal and heartfelt. You could even send handwritten letters or postcards to the people you want to thank. You could also express your gratitude by volunteering locally. There are plenty of places to volunteer in Highwood, IL. Visit your local food bank, library, and other local organizations for more information on how you can help give back to your community. Participating in community classes, community clean-up, and community sports are other great ways to volunteer in your community and meet new people. We hope that you’ve enjoyed our post! Movies You Might Have Missed-image

2017 had its share of great movies. That’s why in today’s post, we’re sharing a few movies that — while you probably have heard of them — you might not have watched. Take some time this month to watch a variety of movies inside your apartment at Arrive North Shore in Highwood, IL. Same Kind of Different as Me “International art dealer Ron Hall must befriend a dangerous homeless man in order to save his struggling marriage to his wife, a woman whose dreams will lead all three of them on the journey of their lives.” Marshall “Young Thurgood Marshall faces one of his greatest challenges while working as a lawyer for the NAACP. Marshall travels to conservative Connecticut when wealthy socialite Eleanor Strubing accuses black chauffeur Joseph Spell of sexual assault and attempted murder. He soon teams up with Sam Friedman, a local Jewish lawyer who's never handled a criminal case. Together, the two men build a defense while contending with racist and anti-Semitic views from those who deem Spell to be guilty.” The Foreigner “Quan is a humble London businessman whose long-buried past erupts in a revenge-fueled vendetta when the only person left for him to love -- his teenage daughter -- dies in a senseless act of politically motivated terrorism. His relentless search to find the terrorists leads to a cat-and-mouse conflict with a British government official whose own past may hold the clues to the identities of the elusive killers.” Only the Brave “Through hope, determination, sacrifice, and the drive to protect families and communities, the Granite Mountain Hotshots become one of the most elite firefighting teams in the country. While most people run from danger, they run toward it—watching over lives, homes and everything people hold dear, forging a unique brotherhood that comes into focus with one fateful fire in Yarnell, Ariz.” If you haven't already seen Only the Brave, we think you'll love it. What will you be watching this month? Share your favorite movies in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

Easy-to-Learn Board Games-image

As a welcome from our apartment community to yours, Arrive North Shore of Highwood, IL would like kickoff 2018 with a list of our favorite board games. Game nights are a fun and easy way to break the ice, be it with new neighbors, friends, or distant relatives. Whatever your reasons are for celebrating game night in Highwood, make it a night to remember with a few of our favorite board games. Today, we’re sharing a few games that take less than a minute to learn. That means less explaining and more playing. Enjoy! We Didn’t Playtest This At All : The goal of this game is simple: Win. Yes, that’s what the rules say. Simply draw a card and then play one from your hand, following the instructions on the card. They might say, “Everyone plays rock, paper, scissors,” or “This is a dragon. Place in front of another player to eat them. That person is dead.” Santorini : “Santorini is a highly accessible pure strategy game that is simple enough for an elementary school classroom. But with enough gameplay depth and content for even hardcore gamers to explore, Santorini is truly a game for everyone.” Timeline: Inventions : “Each card depicts an invention on both sides, with the year in which that invention was created on only one side. Players take turns placing a card from their hand in a row on the table. After placing the card, the player reveals the date on it. If the card was placed correctly with the date in chronological order with all other cards on the table, the card stays in place; otherwise, the card is removed from play and the player takes another card from the deck.” Tsuro : Board games don’t come much simpler than this tile-laying, dragon-themed one. Simply place a tile, and then move your token along the new path that has been created. Your goal is to stay on the board. While it only takes about 15 minutes to play, Tsuro is a great choice for any game night. What are your favorite board games to bring to the table on game night? Share in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
