Six months ago we shared cooking tips and advice from people of Reddit, an online community where people can post content such as links, text, and images. In thinking of the cleaning that our residents undertake in their Arrive North Shore apartments during the holidays, we thought it would be great to read a Reddit thread about cleaning tips. Here’s what we found:
-
Vinegar will clean almost everything; baking soda will take care of the rest. Don't use vinegar on Granite though; it takes the finish right off!
-
Leave wherever you are slightly better than you found it, even if it’s simply throwing one thing out or wiping down your desk. If you do tiny stuff all the time you never have to actually do much cleaning-cleaning.
-
Rub wax paper on the faucets. It prevents water spots.
-
Use decent cleaning supplies. Trying to clean the bathtub with an old falling-apart sponge and all-purpose cleaner is a lot more time-consuming and frustrating than just using baking soda and a fresh sponge.
-
Don't just put it down, put it away.
-
For reducing clutter: go through your stuff, take things you feel like you don't use often, and stick them in a big plastic bin. Put that bin somewhere out of the way, like in your garage or the back of a closet, and set a calendar event for a year from now. Once that year is up, donate anything that you never took out of the bin. If you didn't need it in the past year, there's no reason you should have it (with a few exceptions, e.g. fire extinguishers).
You probably have some cleaning tips of your own. If so, feel free to add them in the comments below so that residents of our apartment community in Highwood, IL can benefit from what you have to share!
